Today 11/09/2021 was a very special day in the life of Millom Baptist Church as we have a new Minister the Rev, Rachel Street. At a lovely warm service in the church today Rachel was joined by many friends and peers and was ordained and inducted as our Minister. We are all excited to know what the future holds for us here at Millom Baptist Church, with Rachel as our new leader.
Millom Baptist Church is a group of ordinary people called to be a community of grace. As a church we seek to follow the teaching of Jesus, when he said “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
Believers Baptism We see that baptism is linked to personal faith and trust in Jesus Christ as our saviour and Lord – the baptism is by full immersion. This means we are raised in the power of God and now live in the power of God.
Infant Dedication and Thanksgiving We do not baptise or christen babies, but we offer services of Infant Dedication and Thanksgiving.
Church Leadership The Leadership of the church and of the various organisations are appointed by the church meeting. The leaders of the church are:
Minister: Rachel Street
Secretary: Jean Liney
Treasurer: Mary Ellwood
Trustees: Rachel Street, Sue Troll, Jean Liney Mary Ellwood & Peter Grayson
Prayer, Care and Bible Study Prayer is encouraged in all church services and other meetings, and at other times by individuals and small groups. Bible teaching is also provided in church services and house groups. A summary of the sermon is usually included in the weekly church notice sheet. Care and support for one another is also encouraged. The house groups are a key part of this pursuit.
Joint Activities The church is involved in ‘Churches Together in Millom’, a forum for co-operation between churches of various denominations. The church is involved in the ‘Call to Prayer’, which takes places every few months in various churches across the district, where the Christians gather to pray together. Our minister is one of the coordinators of these meetings. We are involved with the other Baptist Churches in Cumbria. Several events are held each year, in the local Baptist Churches. Child Protection Policy The church has developed a child protection policy, drawing on the advice of the Baptist Union ‘Safe to Grow’ and other resources.
